Then again, it MIGHT be because we don't pay them a Decent Salary.

Or could it be because the three guys that left, (AW, Todor, Boyden) are all in there twenties and might not want to be grad assistants, strength coaches, or 3rd assistants for the rest of their coaching careers? What's wrong with these guys having a little bit of ambition? I for one am happy for all 3 of them for furthering their coaching careers.

There is not a thing wrong with wanting to better themselves, I am sure AW is probably getting 2 or 3 times what he was making here at Scotsburg, DB was more or less fired, and i am sure Todor is making more, I dont blame them at all...

Taking a high school head coaching position just down the road from his home town is not necessarily a step down in my mind. Turnover amongst grad assistants is a common thing.

All fine young men, but I don't see having them or not having them have much of an effect on the program.

I'm sad to see AW leave. But these arguments are correct. Salary, opportunity, home, these are all good reasons to take the job. He's in his 20's, this is the time to find out. Does he want to be a HS coach or a college assistant coach? Can even go to HS and back to college sometime!

We've got other guys around that can fill the position. (Someone else can drive the car to Texas?)

The haters have blamed Felton, Horn, and MacDonald of running off their assistants. Its a piece of the game.

Maybe it's time to let Jim McDaniels step up and fill a bigger role.
Best of luck to AW.

Just a Thought. How "Valuable" can Jim McDaniels be beyond giving Inspirational "Pep Talks" to the Players? I could be Wrong, but the Times I've seen him, lately, he doesn't appear to be up to much Traveling, for Recruiting Purposes. He also doesn't Appear to be able to show many "moves" to our "Big" Players.

Considering his Apparently-Limited Abilities, what is he Worth to Fill what Kind of Position?

AW is about as close to home as he can possibly get. Scottsburg is a small school, but hopefully he will do fine. Good luck to him.

You would think this leave would be for opportunity. A.W. is a modern era hilltopper legend and I'll miss seeing him on the bench. I'm sure he did a great job but his position probably did pay less than a comfortable salary and that could have been the motivation behind the leave.

Here's to hoping that A.W. can help create a pipeline of talent from IN to WKU.

BTW I hope OMV applies. Although I'm sure his pro dreams are far from over. He'll make a great coach one day if he wants to be one.

Anthony Winchester is heading home - sort of.

The former Western Kentucky basketball standout, who served as WKU’s director of operations this past season, told the Daily News on Monday he has accepted the head boys’ coaching position at Scottsburg High School in Indiana, located a mere five miles from his hometown of Austin, Ind.

“I’m really excited to have the chance to get back and be close to the family again and have this opportunity,” Winchester said. “It’s a great opportunity that I’m really excited about and really looking forward to.”
