h.h. interview with wku coach r-mac

good interview that señor haven conducted with r-mac. it looks like he's learned a bit from running his piehole last year and has tempered expectations.

Quote:
HH: Do you have any predictions for the coming season?
KM: I really don’t. Simply because it is a very challenging schedule. I think we’ll be competitive, I really do. And I think as the year goes on and as this team evolves and we come together….we’ve got a chance to be a good basketball team but it will take some time. I hope the fans are patient and understand who we’re playing, when we’re playing them and that we have seven new guys in the system…not a lot of teams have that. But there are some exciting possibilities….it’s definitely going to be fun. It’s going to be a lot of fun….

the comparisons with drane and jeremy can stop right now....he's already put on weight.....and khalil must be on a no 'big mac' diet right now...he's dropped weight.

Quote:
HH: How are the new guys adjusting so far to college and everything?
KM: They’re getting acclimated pretty good, taking some classes and getting a chance to know campus and their teammates and the teachers. Getting to know a little bitabout how we run our system and what we expect. I think that’s a big learning curve that happens during this summer session. But all the attitudes have been great. The weightroom is where I can see them and they’re doing a great job. We’ve had a couple of guys put on some weight. Stephon Drane has put on like eight pounds already, Brandon Peters has put on like seven pounds, Kene Anyigbo has lost about ten pounds, Khalil McDonald has also lost about ten pounds….so, our new strength coach is doing an outstanding job and the guys are working hard right now and doing what they can and start to come together as a team.

He is going to have to be a beast to have any chance of being a great team this season....

Glad to see some humility shining through. It's always better to lower your self humbly than to be humbled by someone else. We were humbled more than once last year.

I believe the Things being Said by K-Mac, last Year, were Pretty Tame, compared with what was being Said, on this Board, by some who had been Watching Our Pickup Games.

He's a biiiigggg, strong looking youngster. They'd better not let Coach Taggert see him. He makes Steff and Juan look kinda average sized. Its hard to imagine he's an eighteen year old.

Looks like he can play too.

I like the hype. Who wants to hear that their team looks like a piece of crap in summer practice. The hype makes the start of the season more exciting wondering if what has been said is true. If you have been around long enough you learn to take the summer practice discussions with a grain of salt anyway. It is sort of like when you were young and wondered about Santa Claus. You find it hard to believe. Then you get the great present and go hum maybe. The next present may not be so good and you wonder again. But the wonder is what is fun.

i wasn't sure if that one would work or not d'cee....

it was made for technological releases.

i guess we could equate the 'technology release' with a first hand account via the interwebs.....aka 'h.h.'

i'll definitely settle for the 'plateau of productivity' hoping it comes earlier in the season than expected.

In this interview it seems like Kmac is setting up to under-promise and over-deliver. While he also seems to be realizing that he's getting ready to go through a big challenge. But also when he talks about playing big time opponents he clearly isn't scared and that seems to translate into his teams.

I like that he addressed the confidence issue and I'm wondering why he didn't call it swag?

Sounds like the teams conditioning is going well. I think last year's team clearly was behind a step so maybe this new guy has built them back up.

Juan is becoming a haven pickup legend and kmac seems to be adding to the hype.

Defense will be key as many others have pointed out just a few more stops here and there and the season changes. Personally I'd like to see more defense to offense strategies deployed. Last year it seemed like there would be a steal then pass to AJ or Sally and they would hold the ball and settle for the halfcourt play. That's crap somebody needs to be throwing outlet passes - somebody please. I think our new guards will look to fly down the court and that should fix those problems. All of the big men can fly down the court to see it makes sense to attack with speed when there's an opportunity.

If this team doesn't play a more up tempo style of game then i might join Dahbeed an call it clownball or whatever it is. With the combo of bigs and guards we have this season we would be foolish not to run. I think thats why we saw Cliff look so lost on both ends at times last season because he likely wasn't very experienced in half court sets.

Cliff, Juan, Pett and Serge should all be constantly running out of the frontcourt as long as Ken Brown or Jamal pushes the pace which they both should be able to do. I think even Teeng once he gets on the court he likes to run as well. So assuming K-Mac isn't completely incompetent then i think this should be a very fun team to watch.

That's pretty good... Laughing Not to mention if you didn't "believe", you might be cut out of the present distribution matrix. So, in effect, it's better just to numb one's mind and disregard the signs.
