Former Hilltopper star Anthony Winchester (2003-06) will leave WKU to become the head coach at Scottsburg (Ind.) High School according to WKU head coach Ken McDonald. Winchester was a graduate assistant at WKU in 2008-09 and was the director of basketball operations in 2009-10.

Scottsburg competes in the same conference as Winchester’s alma mater, Austin High School and the two teams are old rivals.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to be coaching high school basketball in Indiana and to get back closer to home,” Winchester said in a release. “It’s going to be a challenge, but I think it’s going to be a lot of fun at the same time.

“It’s bittersweet to be leaving Western Kentucky University and Hilltopper Nation, which has become a home away from home for me. Coach McDonald has been great to me. He recruited me, I played for him and he gave me the opportunity to be on his staff for the last two years. I can’t thank him and the entire coaching staff enough …”

Winchester ranks eighth on WKU’s all-time scoring list with 1,732 points and he is also WKU’s leader in three-pointers made (247).
