Former Players News — 21 July 2010

Former Hilltopper standout AJ Slaughter will be continuing his playing career in Italy it was announced today. The Shelbyville, Ky. native signed a contract with Angelico Biella of Lega Basket Serie A. The league is the highest level in Italian professional basketball. Slaughter is scheduled to report to his new team in August.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity,”
Slaughter said. “It’s great to get to go to another country to play basketball and get paid for it. Not a lot of people get the chance to go overseas and do something they love professionally. The level of competition is great. Fred Jones played for them last year and he played for the Indiana Pacers, and [former Louisville Cardinal standouts] Taquan Dean and Reece Gaines played for them a couple of years ago.”

Slaughter recently played for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Summer League with hopes of making an NBA roster.

“With the Pistons’ summer league team I got a chance to play in front of a lot of people and a lot of teams,” Slaughter said. “I felt it was a great experience for me.”
